My experience at Absolute Interpreting and Translations Ltd

My name is Sharon, I am 22 and I am Italian. As soon as I graduated, I decided to carry out four months of Translation Internship Program at Absolute Interpreting and Translations in Birmingham, UK as I wished to strengthen my translation skills along with gaining fluency and further confidence with the English language. I believed it could also be a good chance to gain a working experience abroad and especially to practice what I have been studying for years.

Why Translation Internship Program in the UK?

During my stay at Absolute I was given the opportunity to realize the tasks of a translation project manager, which mainly involve assigning translations to the translators and getting back to the clients with the translation service they required. Therefore, I learned not only how to deal properly with both clients and translators, but also to take into account customers’ feedback in order to meet their needs and provide them with the best service possible.

But that’s not all, since Absolute Interpreting and Translations allowed me to be a translator myself as well. I translated documents of any kind between my language pairs, such as certificates, letters, medical reports and bank statements from English into Italian or Spanish and vice versa. Then, I had my jobs proofread by a proof reader so that I could get a feedback which definitely helped me to build up and enrich my translation competencies.

Despite of this, things in the office were not always so easy, since it often happened to work under pressure and experience some stressful days due to customer complaints, short deadlines to meet and so on. However, working hard with the support of the other interns and the rest of the team, everything eventually went well. Besides, I was happy to realize I was able to handle even the most difficult matters and to deal with the many assignments my manager Emal gave me.

To sum up, I would recommend other students to join the Absolute team because it represents a good chance to work in a foreign environment and get more experience in the field of interpreting and translation. I personally believe that doing a Translation Internship in the UK in an interpreting and Translation Company especially at Absolute Interpreting and Translations Ltd is essential for those who wish to improve their English along with practicing translation or interpreting jobs. In addition, it really helps to get an idea of what working in such companies involves and to see what actually lies behind the provision of an interpreting and translation service.

After four months of internship at Absolute Interpreting and Translations I feel more experienced and both my personal and practical skills benefited, reason why I would suggest everyone to grab the opportunity to do the same.
